BEYOND FUNCTIONALISM

Bruno Munari’s three-dimensional structures made of simple geometrical figures hung together with thin ropes: these machines didn’t have any internal power and their only possible “work” was undulating in the wind, imitating tree crowns, while the user was left contemplating their uselessness. His contribution to the futurist circle shared, in many ways, trends with Russian Constructivism and Bauhaus.

'THE BLIND PASSANGER' - OLAFUR ELIASSON -

Part of Sanitov Studio recently visited Arken, a museum placed at a beautiful location outside Copenhagen. They currently show a fantastic instillation by Danish/Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson called ‘The Blind Passanger’. It is based on utopia and how individuals experience this differently. Eliasson has created a piece where people entering, will find themselves challenged by the lack of visibility and the co-ordination of space when walking through the 90 meter long tunnel. The changeability and movement becomes the core of utopia.

ENDLESS CITY - TD-ARCHITECTS -

Theo Deutinger and Catarina Dantas have proposed a prediction of how our cities might grow in the next 50 years. With more than half of the world’s population living in cities, it is expected to be 75 % within 50 years. This expansion can be a positive development for urban planners, architects, designers and business people. But what is interesting about TD-ARCHITECTS prediction is how this rapid growth eventually will reach and incorporate the population living in the countryside’s. This can have a fatal impact on the quality of our lives.
